The console just outright stops working if you deconstruct the starting DNA scanners (for upgrading purposes, for example), and if you just decide to build your own, it suffers from the same issue.

And while we're at it, the consoles cannot be deconstructed, only the scanners; The screwdriver simply doesn't work on them.
